Your point was fine. Your tone loses anyway.
Never disagrees with you. Just with how you said it.

The Tone Policer never argues with your point. They argue with how you made it. You raise a real problem, and the conversation turns into a review of your delivery: too heated, too blunt, making people uncomfortable. What they want is your complaint withdrawn and filed again as your communication problem. It works because their calm makes any objection look like proof. The more you defend your tone, the further you get from the issue you came to raise.
What it sounds like
Nobody is saying you're wrong. It's the way you're saying it.
Let's set the accusations aside and keep this constructive, OK?
See, even now. Listen to yourself.
What works
They give ground when you calmly restate the issue and refuse to make the conversation about your delivery. Do not perform your calm for their approval or ask whether your tone is acceptable now. Acknowledge their remark in one short sentence, then put the issue back on the table in the same words as before. Do this every time they steer away. After a few rounds there is no tone left to discuss, and they have to answer the substance or openly refuse to.
You sayNoted. My tone can wait. The problem I raised can't, so let's talk about what happens with it.
What backfires
Defending your tone gives them the conversation they wanted. Getting angry hands them proof. Apologizing for how you said it, then softening the issue until it disappears, is the outcome they were aiming for. Accusing them of dodging can also slide into a debate about who is unreasonable, which is still not your issue.

The civility trap
You brought a legitimate complaint to the person who handles them. Somehow the meeting keeps becoming about your attitude.
